Recognise verbal and non-verbal indicators of escalation, signs of emotional distress or agitation, behavioural changes that suggest potential crisis, and individual triggers or risk factors.

Implement clear expectations for conduct and communication. Build positive relationships and a respectful classroom culture. Apply proactive strategies and early intervention approaches to minimise conflict and prevent escalation.

Develop the ability to remain calm in high-stress situations. Apply verbal de-escalation techniques appropriate to educational settings, manage group dynamics, and make safe decisions about whether to continue or pause lessons.
